The school library is stocked with over 10,000 fiction and non-fiction books, encyclopaedias, posters, videos, DVDs, CD-Roms and games. Up to the minute Access-It software has been installed to make searching for books easy for even the
youngest of students. From year 3, students are allowed to borrow books from the library within their privilege level. Overdue books incur restricted borrowing privileges and lost books must be paid for so that the library can operate efficiently and provide an effective resource base.
As well as being a treasure house of knowledge, the library has a very lively atmosphere and is very involved in the intellectual culture of the school. There is an active school librarian group who alternate working behind the desk with publishing a regular library newsletter. The school librarian group is very popular and there is usually a waiting list.
During the year, the library also holds regular competitions, annual Book Weeks including parades, second hand book swaps, is a regular participant in the nationwide Kid’s Lit Quiz and has twice won the award for the “Most Creative School” in the New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards Writing Competition.
