STUDENT LIBRARIANS
Hebron Christian College has a very active group of student librarians.
To be a student librarian, you must be at least Year 5. You are required to come once a week during lunch-time to do your duties. Librarians are given points dependant on how many duties they do. At the end of each term, there is a prize-giving for the top librarians.
To be a librarian, you must complete a series of tests. These tests are not difficult. Some of them are questions, some are maps, some are puzzles. At the end of each test, a certificate is given in assembly. As you progress through the tests, you achieve your librarian's badge and your extra stars. The top librarians become team leaders, in charge of their own library team.
We limit the number of student librarians to 35. This number is quickly filled at the beginning of each year. Extra students are put on a waiting list. This is a volunteer position, so occasionally students drop out, to allow others in. Should a student librarian not turn up for their duty three weeks in a row without good reason, they are also taken off the list. For further information, please see Mrs Huston.
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Every year the library is involved in a number of special activities.
In Term One, classes take part in Literature Quizzes, competing against each other in their knowledge of children's books.
In Term Two, the school quiz team is chosen, to compete against other schools in the Kids Lit Quiz, a national competition.
Also in Term Two, we promote the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards writing competition. In 2010 and 2011, Hebron won one of the categories of this competition, gaining the title "Most Creative School" !
In Term Three, we hold our annual bookweek. Each year there is a theme. We have author visits, a character parade, book games and lots of fun.
As well as this, there are often competitions running during each term, extra author visits and special evenings.
At Hebron Christian College, the library is a fun place to be!
