CHEMISTRY is the study of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter, especially of atomic and molecular systems.
Welcome to the NCEA level 2 and 3 Chemistry course. The chemistry curriculum contributes towards The New Zealand Curriculum Framework within the essential learning area of science. It is an interesting course as it involves qualitative and quantiative analysis using various analytical techniques, along with the theory. It also prepares you well for further study in Chemistry at tertiary levels.- There are 17 to 21 credits offered at each level
- Some of the Achievement Standards are internally assessed
- And some of the Achievement Standards are externally assessed at the end of the year
Chemistry Department News 2010
In 2010 we began using Bestchoice. 
BestChoice is an interactive educational web site supporting all of the NCEA Level 2 and 3 Chemistry achievement standards. Bestchoice is a New Zealand website that is used by high school and university students around the world.
The features of BestChoice are:
there are 100 modules available,
there are also 8000 possibilities for interacting with the system,
it engages and interacts with students learning by requiring input from them
and students receive immediate instructive feedback,
answers entered are stored and available on subsequent log-ins.
Teachers can also monitor each students progress through a module, to check their understanding of the topic.
BestChoice complements learning from teachers, textbooks and practicals.
