Year 6


The Class
Room 10 is a year 6 class at Hebron Christian College. It is made up of 19 students: 10 girls and 9 boys with ages ranging from 10-11 years. They are gifted individuals bringing a range a talent to the class.

Language

The students went to the zoo and have worked on writing poems about various animals. Below are some of the students sharing their poems at assembly

For Art,

the class have been learning about the skills in marquetry.Like the rest of the class, Oliver started with a bare piece of plywood (held in his right hand).He had to use his maths skills marking and cutting out each piece of veneer. In his left hand he holds his finished project, a clock decorated with different pieces of veneer. He is very proud of his achievement

World Explorers

In social studies Oliver and Luda work industriously on their Neil Armstrong projects.

Term Book Week

Week seven has been an eventful and enjoyable week, with visiting authors, book quizzes, trading books and a character parade.


Studying the features of animals and their enclosures, at the Zoo
It is hard to get a Flamingo to stay still for a photo. Sophia helps out and finds the Flamingoes neck fits nicely into her hand.




Bird boxes
Students visited Tiri Tiri island in term one. They saw the effort made by the government D.O.C. staff and volunteers to save endangered native birds, by placing them in a safe environment and ensuring their survival. In technology the students have looked at different designs of bird houses and then given one of two designs to build. As they built their boxes they were able to add their own creative features.

Fun Maths-Measurement and statistics

The students are encouraged to build a boat that will travel the length of the pool by itself. Each class member makes an estimation of the distance and the time they think it will take each boat before it it is sailed. Distances, times and speeds are recorded after to check their estimation and to do further work with statistics.

Language-Working with Shadow puppetry

In narrative writing, students have been working in pairs writing creative stories. They then create a puppet show either in marinettes or shadow pupets and some are selected to present at assembly.

Primary Bands

Talented young students express their vocal and musical talents. They form bands. In the pictures above they are performing to their peers.

Levers and Topics of Interest
Luke is a highly motivated student. He loves a challenge and especially loves creative projects. Here is holding a wooden jigsaw puzzle that he designed and built to a specific design brief. Alongside him is his levers project, a horse with a moving tail and head.

Language and Drama
At an earlier date students wrote their own creative stories and then put them into plays. Some were selected for reading groups to act out. This creative story of Katie's about mice, was acted out by Katie's reading group.

Gymnastics
Term three and the students of the middle school all participate at a local gymnastism improving their gymnastics ability.
