We have all enjoyed a wonderful week celebrating books and special thanks goes to our librarian, Mrs Debbie Airey for organising this event.
On Monday afternoon, all the primary students rotated around 10 activities centred around books. Older students organised or helped younger student arrive at the right answers for puzzles and quiz questions.
This is where students bring in their books that are no longer needed and in exchange they receive tokens depending on the condition of the book. Then with their tokens they can purchase books that other students have brought in. There were a huge amount of books and in very good condition. This event was very successful with very happy students leaving with new books to read.
The students and staff of Hebron Christian College had a real "wacky" day on Wednesday as part of the school's Book Week which, this year, had a Dr Suess theme. Not only did the staff and students dress in a wacky manner but the school flag flew upside down, desks were assembled facing the back of the room, shoes were stuck to walls and some classes ended up with odd teachers! A great day enjoyed by all!
Students were invited to enter a cake for our Book Week Cake Competition. The cakes were brought to school on Thursday and it was wonderful to see the creative talent exhibited in the designs, icing and frills. The cakes were sold at lunchtime, either whole or by the slice, and $347.16
was raised for the New Life Foundation orphanage in Tanzania.

Hebron Book Week
Wow, what an amazing week! Book week is such fun. Today was the very last day. This morning we had poet Paula Green
, author of the children’s poetry book ‘Flamingo Bendalingo’, speak to all the classes in the Junior and Middle school. She read poems, set challenges and had the children making up their own poetry. She also invited them to send their poems to her via her website www.nzpoetrybox.wordpress.com
, and promised to reply. The children were fascinated, and I’m sure a number of them are bubbling with ideas.
This afternoon, we had our character parade. The theme was poetry and nursery rhymes, and did we have some amazing costumes! I am overwhelmed with the creativity of some of our students (and parents, too). After prizes were given and we paraded in the sunshine, we all trooped over to Everill Orr to meet the residents and show off our costumes. They were very pleased to see us, and I know we are welcome back any time.
Thank you to everyone who took part in our Book Week – students, parents, and teachers. It is wonderful to be in a school such as Hebron Christian College where learning can be such fun.
